Finally… I have graduated from ITB after 5 long years. It is from August 2005 to July 2010. What a long five years.
Last week, exactly on July 17th 2010 I have my commencement ceremony conducted at Sasana Budaya Ganesha, ITB, Bandung. I was one from around 1400 graduates who graduated that day. It was such a big event for us who have studied for years in ITB. I am happy I was able to pass it beautifully.
Graduation is always a memorable moment. Since the first time I stepped my feet on ITB soils, I realised that it would not be easy to graduate in this institution. I had to face various kinds of problem that challenge me to be able to graduate in the expected period, 4 years. Even though I finished my study in 5 years, my one years experience in Japan is off course shouldn’t be counted. Therefore I consider my self finish my study in 4 years.
The commencement ceremony was held from 9.00 until 12.00. Personally, the ceremony itself was not interesting thing. There were just speeches, musical performances, and photo sessions. However, the thing that make that day so memorable was the attendance of my parents, sister, and my girlfriend. They saw me using the commencement ceremony costumes while holding my graduation certificate. I was so moved when my name was called in the auditorium and then my parent saw me greeting the rector of ITB. It was the official procedure that showed my eligibility to hold a bachelor degree in engineering. The term of bachelor degree is equal to Sarjana Teknik (ST) in Indonesia. Therefore, from now and on, my name will be “Achmad Syaiful Makmur, ST” when it is used in official documents.
After the ceremony in ITB, I have another ceremony in civil engineering department. This second ceremony was held by Sudent Union in Civil Engineering Department. At that time, we have “water & powder war” where the graduates were congratulated by the audience by splashing the graduates with water and wheat flour. It was very fun and refreshing moment. After the”water & powder war”, representatives of the graduates were given a chance to express their feeling about their graduation. Me and Berliandi Manik was the representative from student of the class 2005. After that, the chief of student union dismiss our regular membership status and give us new membership status, the honorary member.
And so the day ended with me greeted and thanked all people who attend the second ceremony. Personally, I thing the ceremony would be far more memorable if I graduated with all student from the class 2005. Unfortunately, My graduation was mostly for student from the class 2006 so from 72 graduates that day, only 7 were from class 2005. But anyway, It was still one of the most wonderful moments of my life.
PS :
At this time, della as well as Dian were also graduated. This makes all of 5 Indonesian YSEP 2008/2009 finished their bachelor level study. So fun ^.^
